It's our birthday! The Two Oceans Aquarium turns 29
On 13 November 1995, the Two Oceans Aquarium opened its doors for the very first time. Today, we celebrate 29 incredible years of being a hub of Cape Town's ocean tourism, education and conservation communities! Our birthday Trash Bash was the best yet!
What better way to celebrate the Two Oceans Aquarium’s 28th birthday than with the last Trash Bash beach cleanup of 2023?
On Saturday, 13 November, our incredible Aquarium family gathered on Muizenberg Beach to make a difference for our ocean. Amongst the surfers and beachgoers, our bright blue gazebos adorned with birthday bunting made for a festive atmosphere!

Meet the West Coast rock lobster!
We have some new additions to the Two Oceans Aquarium family: West Coast rock lobsters! Locally known as “kreef” or crayfish, these tough-looking lobsters are endemic to the western coast of South Africa, from Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape around the Cape of Good Hope in the Western Cape to Cape Cross in Namibia.
