Wolfi octopus
The Wolfi octopus, also known as the Star-Sucker Pygmy octopus, is the world’s smallest octopus. On average, these octopuses weigh less than a gram and measure just over one centimetre in length. They are found throughout the Western Pacific Ocean and do not stray far from the coastline. Due to their minuscule size, the Wolfi octopus lives for roughly six months.
Wolfi octopuses are characterised by the "papillate fringes" around the edges of their arms. These papillae allow them to taste what they touch.
As hatchlings, wolfi octopuses feed off nanoplankton, the smallest plankton.
Wolfi octopuses prefer shallow waters, usually living at depths above 30 metres.
