Sea anemones
Sea anemones are carnivorous, stinging polyps that spend most of their time attached to rocks on the sea floor or on coral reefs. Their bodies are made up of an adhesive pedal disk, a cylindrical body and an array of tentacles around a central mouth. Their tentacles are easily triggered, ready to inject a paralyzing neurotoxin into victims. There are over 1000 sea anemone species found throughout the world’s oceans at varying depths, although the largest occur in coastal tropical waters. They vary in colour and size, ranging from two cm to nearly two metres across.
