Dageraad
Dageraad are endemic to South Africa, from Cape Point to Durban and occur at depths of between 20 and 100m. Dageraad is a slow-growing and long-lived species. Historically, Dageraad was a critical component to the commercial and linefish industry. Today, Dageraad has been classified as "Critically Endangered" by the IUCN. Fish stock is currently considered as "collapsed".
Ichthyologist Margaret Smith said that, when adult dageraad die, they are ‘the most beautiful of all creatures, as waves of different colours pass over the body’. ‘Dageraad’ is Dutch for ‘dawn’.
